Good Things Come in Thoughtful Packages

Premier Protein & Tetra Pak

Our Commitment to Sustainability

By now you know how much thought and love goes into our shakes. But what you might not know is that the TLC we put into our products doesn’t stop there. We’re just as thoughtful and exacting in our standards when it comes to our packaging.

For example, did you know that our cartons are environmentally sound? From how they are manufactured to where they end up after they’re used—we believe they make the lowest possible impact on the environment. That’s why we chose Tetra Pak—a recognized industry leader in innovative, environmentally-responsible packaging.

The Whole Package

So what goes into our shake cartons exactly? Well, we’re glad you asked.

Let’s start with the big picture. Life Cycle Sustainability. From requiring lower emissions to create, to the smaller footprint they leave at the end of their lives, Tetra Pak  cartons are lower impact and perform better than the other packaging options on the market we considered. And we’ve worked hard to optimize the design of our packaging to use the least amount of material possible.

Now let’s zoom in on the carton itself. It’s recyclable, made from 70% paperboard that comes from wood fiber sources that are from FSC -certified forests and other controlled sources. You can’t see it, but our cartons are made from six layers – protecting our shakes against light, oxygen, and bacteria. That keeps our shakes fresh and ready to drink, no refrigerator necessary until they’re opened. Once recycled, our shake cartons can live a new life, becoming new products, like tissues, coloring books, and sustainable building materials.

To cap it off (pun intended), that little red cap is made from plants. Sugar cane, to be exact. It’s durable, sustainable, and recyclable. Think about that for a second. Plastic—made from plants. Plants pull CO2 from the air— where fossil fuels (that other plastics are made from) create CO2. Plus, sugar cane grows back, making it a renewable resource.

Picking the Right Partner

Now back to the big picture. Continued Commitment. It doesn’t end here. Tetra Pak  has big plans. Globally, their facilities will be powered by 100% renewable electricity by 2030. And, in the U.S. and Canada, all of their facilities are already powered by renewable electricity. Tetra Pak believes in full life cycle sustainability and in supporting value chain partners who enable this to thrive. That means working to increase the availability of recycling efforts and supporting the development of products made from recycled materials.
